Space2Grieve Grant 5

The Hunchman Trust has recently agreed a new grant with space2grieve, helping to expand and sustain their Children and Young People Bereavement Support Service.  This specialist programme provides free, one-to-one bereavement support for children and young people, alongside dedicated Parenting Through Grief appointments for parents and carers.  The service recognises that bereavement can affect every part of a young person’s life, from emotional wellbeing and relationships to confidence and education, often at a time when families feel uncertain about where to turn for help.  Based across Richmond, Southwest London and Surrey, space2grieve ensures that support is available in ways that work for families, whether in community settings, schools, or remotely.

Delivered by a team of highly trained bereavement support volunteers, the programme gives children and young people a safe space to understand their grief, express difficult emotions, and feel less alone in their experiences.  Parents and carers are also supported to better understand the impact of loss and how to help their children navigate it.

The impact of this work is reflected in the experiences of the families it supports.  One parent described the service as “an absolutely crucial, utterly brilliant service at a time of unprecedented need in my life”.  Another said: “I have renewed hope…”

Last year, the programme supported over 300 people, including families and teenagers with high levels of need, delivering 2000+ hours of dedicated bereavement support.  By funding this programme, you’re helping ensure that even more children, young people, and families receive timely, specialist support following bereavement.  Your support is helping reduce isolation, strengthen resilience, and create space for healing when it is needed most..  Your support is helping create something steady at a time when everything can feel uncertain.
